Tea & Juice Bars

Portland

Curated by Eva Tsang

Portland, Oregon has long been known for its entrepreneurial spirit; staying at the forefront of emerging trends. One recent movement is the growth of independent tea and juice bars that focus on sourcing high quality ingredients served up in a beautifully decorated space. In this guide, we’ve partnered with our friends at American Express to highlight a few of our favorite tea and juice bars in Portland, all of which embody the spirit of Shop Small® in their small businesses.

    Tea bar

This Scandinavian inspired space is bright and airy, and makes you want to stay and linger. Tea Bar offers a variety of teas, including oolong, chai and matcha. Favorites include their version of the London Fog, also known as an Earl Grey latte, and ceremonial matcha, which owner Erica Swanson sources from a family farm in Japan, and serves in traditional chawan tea bowl.

    Juice cart

Sip offers juices and smoothies served out of a charming vintage RV, made using only fresh organic local produce. Situated in the trendy Alberta Arts District, its location couldn't be more ideal. Start your day with its ‘Get Up’, a pineapple, orange, carrot, and apple juice blend, or try one of their smoothies, which include their house-made raw hemp milk. Owner Brian Heck started the cart in 2008 and continues to only use fresh organic local produce in all of his products.

    Chai & doughnut shop

Pip’s Original, now a Portland staple, offers five blends of house-made chai, made from organic raw spices and tea. Sample each unique blend by ordering their chai flight. A personal favorite is “The King and I”, a blend of Thai tea, cardamon, clove and anise. Owner Nathan Snell, and his co-owner and wife Jamie take great care in finding the perfect balance of flavors to compliment their famous doughnuts.

    Juice bar

Located in the industrial southeast part of town, this bright and inviting space offers organic freshly squeezed juice, smoothies and their popular açaí bowls. Try the Tiger Blood, a juice concoction of carrot, ginger and big slice of beet, which is as invigorating as its name infers it would be. With three locations open to date, owners Nate Higgins and Nick Armour are slowly growing their mini juice empire. Kure will quickly become your go-to superfood destination.
